For many years Stephen and his family experienced bizarre phenomena. Sometimes it bore the hallmarks of the alien abduction phenomenon and sometimes it was just plain strange. In this series we’ll share the just plain weirdest encounters of our family.
In March of 1984, when Stephen was 23, he was staying at his parent’s Southern California house. One night he fell asleep on the living room carpet. He woke up at about 4:30 a.m. He felt awake but very relaxed.
There was a light on in the room and he looked up to see a small being, about two-and-a-half-feet tall, floating next to one of the ceiling beams. It appeared to be shimmery, it was all black with a triangular head, squarish feet and big black eyes.
As soon as the creature realized Stephen was looking at it, it floated down to his right side, and spoke to him in a deep baritone voice saying, “Do you want me to help you get out of your body?”
Stephen sensed that this being was powerful, and possibly dangerous, he felt a tingling fear in his gut, but his instincts told him not to show it.
He responded, “You can help me, but you cannot possess me.” He doesn’t know why he said that.
The being grabbed his arm and started to pull him, but the fear made him resist a little and he didn’t come out of his body.
The being then made a wailing growl of frustration, rose up to the ceiling and faded away.
Later Stephen’s father Geoffrey asked him, “Who were you talking to so early?” Geoffrey had heard two different voices speaking.
Stephen related his story, but both men just shrugged and caulked it up to another weird family mystery.
This was one of the few times Stephen didn’t black out after the event.
