LIVES SHAPED BY MYSTERY AND THE UNEXPLAINED
Leslie Shaw
Born in downtown Los Angeles in 1959, Leslie Shaw grew up immersed in creativity. From an early age, she was drawn to writing, drawing, and painting forms of expression that later merged into a lifelong passion for storytelling. She studied fine art and art history at El Camino College before transferring to the renowned California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where she earned her bachelor’s degree in experimental animation.
Leslie’s career carried her into the world of motion control camera effects for film and television, and later into the cutting edge of computer animation. After moving to the high desert, she transitioned into journalism, serving as both writer and paginator for the Hi-Desert Star for two decades. Through it all, Leslie remained captivated by science fiction, ufology, and the unanswered mysteries of the skies.
Her dedication to research and her deep curiosity about extraterrestrial phenomena culminated in the co-authorship of Who They Are, and What They’re Up To. With her husband Stephen, she now investigates, writes, and speaks on the alien abduction phenomenon, hosting their podcast Abductions 101: UFOs and the Paranormal Connection and participating in the documentary Who They Are, available on multiple streaming platforms.
Stephen Shaw
Stephen Shaw’s path has been one of curiosity, discipline, and profound encounters with the unexplained. His education began at Montessori school, where he excelled in languages, music, math, and the sciences. Over the years, Stephen became a skilled classical and jazz musician, served six years in the U.S. Navy, and studied geology as part of his lifelong passion for the natural world.
A craftsman, healer, and teacher, Stephen built furniture alongside his father, pursued medical studies, and became a licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine and acupuncture for two decades. He also spent 23 years teaching Yang and Chen styles of Tai Chi Chuan, merging disciplines of body and mind. His writings extended into alternative medicine, creating resources on Chinese and homeopathic treatments for cancer.
But beneath these achievements lies a family legacy shrouded in the paranormal. For at least four generations, Stephen’s family has experienced otherworldly contact and alien abduction encounters that shaped his worldview and ultimately led to the collaboration with Leslie. His personal testimony, woven into their book, offers a rare, intimate account of what it means to live under the shadow of beings not of this Earth.
A Shared Mission
Together, Leslie and Stephen Shaw combine artistic vision, scientific curiosity, and lived experience to shed light on one of humanity’s most unsettling mysteries. Their work refuses to trivialize or sensationalize the phenomenon; instead, it seeks to uncover truth, however disturbing.
Through their writing, podcast, and documentary, the Shaws extend an invitation: to look deeper, to confront the sinister implications of alien abductions, and to understand, at last, who they are, and what they’re up to.
